GO! PRIZE FIGHTER

POMPEI is pleased to present Go! Prize Fighter, featuring current work and archival ephemera by the artists and makers of the community surrounding the skateboard wheel brand Prize Fighter Cutlery.
 

Prize Fighter Cutlery is an underground skateboard wheel brand founded in 2006 by Ray "Knives" Frech. Its flavors are a mixture of raw North East skateboarding, art, music, and cinema. Cities at night and suburban decay. Rumble Fish meets Breathless meets Fallen Angels. Chaos, style, personality, and pop culture. Prize Fighter strives to document and capture the essence of skateboard culture, outside of the competitive and monetary aspects, staying rooted in the primary urge to just leave the house and roll down the street.
 

Looking at objects, being immersed in one’s environment, utilizing and reinventing available materials, and granting oneself creative authority are common practices shared between skateboarders and artists, which this show attempts to explore.
 

Go! Prize Fighter celebrates and reunites a group of artists who helped inform each other’s early sensibilities and aesthetics, allowing them to carve out their individual artistic paths:

POMPEI is a creative project space and gallery founded by J Grabowski and Jacqueline Pompei. POMPEI is open to the public Saturdays and Sundays, 2-6 pm, and Monday-Friday, by appointment.
